What the Salary to Hourly calculator does

A salary-to-hourly calculator converts between an annual salary and an equivalent hourly wage, and breaks pay down into daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly figures. It helps you compare job offers, price freelance work, or understand the real value of your time.

How the calculation works

Annual working hours equal your weekly hours times the paid weeks you work. Dividing salary by those hours gives the hourly rate; multiplying an hourly rate by them gives the annual salary. Overtime is paid at your chosen multiplier.

Formula

Hourly = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Paid weeks). Overtime pay = OT hours × hourly × multiplier × weeks.

What your results mean

A $65,000 salary at 40 hours a week over 52 weeks works out to about $31.25 per hour and roughly $2,500 biweekly.

Limitations: This is gross pay before taxes and deductions. Benefits, bonuses and irregular schedules are not included.

Frequently asked questions

The calculator divides your annual salary by your total annual working hours. Annual working hours equal your hours per week multiplied by the number of paid weeks you work in a year. For a standard schedule of 40 hours a week over 52 weeks, that is 2,080 hours, so a 65,000 dollar salary works out to roughly 31.25 dollars per hour. If you take unpaid time off, your paid weeks drop and your effective hourly rate rises, since the same salary covers fewer hours. Adjust the hours and weeks fields to match your real schedule for an accurate figure.
